The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) reminds the public not to panic regarding the letter ‘Notice of Involvement in Investigation’, as it is not officially issued by the RBPF. Aside from that, the impersonation of personnel as an officer with the presence of a fake ID also happened.

According to the official police statement regarding the case, the letter or notice recipient mentioned is involved in an investigation for a fraud case investigated by the police force and INTERPOL.

The impersonated personnel also advises the victim recipient not to share the issue of the investigation with family, relatives and others, and that going against the order may lead to legal action being taken.

The impersonation and scam tactic is to trap the victim into giving personal details, bank details and money transfers.

The public is advised not to panic and if it happens, please follow the steps below:

  • Don’t panic
  • Don’t call any number or click any link given by a suspicious source
  • Don’t expose your bank details, password, PIN code, etc.
  • Don’t ever transfer any amount of money for the purpose of investigation, etc.
  • If you feel doubt, call 993 or the anti-scam hotline 16993 for verification
